Summer cookouts, backyard BBQs, and pool parties are officially back. And with the 4th of July just around the corner, it is time to start planning the ultimate Independence Day menu!

While burgers and hot dogs are essential, every adult party needs a fun, festive treat. These layered Red, White, and Blue Jello Shots are the perfect combination of a patriotic dessert and a summer cocktail.
They feature bright layers of Cherry Jell-O, a creamy, sweet condensed milk and coconut rum center, and Berry Blue Jell-O. They look incredibly impressive, but the secret to getting those perfect, sharp stripes is just a little bit of patience. Here is how to make the hit of your 4th of July party!

๐ฉโ๐ณ Step-by-Step Instructions (The “Patience” Method)
The secret to perfectly striped Jello shots is making sure each layer is completely firm before pouring the next one!
Step 1: The Red Layer
In a mixing bowl, whisk the Red Jell-O powder with 1 cup of boiling water for 2 minutes until fully dissolved. Stir in the 1/2 cup of cold water and 1/2 cup of vodka.
The Pour: Arrange your plastic shot glasses on a baking sheet. Carefully pour the red liquid into each cup, filling it about 1/3 of the way up.
Chill: Place the baking sheet in the fridge for 1 to 2 hours until the red layer is fully set and firm to the touch.
Step 2: The Creamy White Layer (Crucial Step!) ๐
In a bowl, sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup of cold water and let it sit for 2 minutes to “bloom”. Pour in 1 cup of boiling water and whisk until dissolved. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and the coconut rum.
The Rule: You MUST let this white mixture cool to room temperature before pouring it! If you pour hot white gelatin over the cold red Jell-O, it will melt the red layer and turn your shots pink!
Once cooled, pour the white layer over the set red layer, filling the cups to the 2/3 mark. Return to the fridge for 1 to 2 hours to set.
Step 3: The Blue Layer
Repeat the same process as the red layer: Dissolve the Blue Jell-O in boiling water, then add cold water and vodka.
Again, let the blue mixture cool to room temperature before pouring it over the set white layer. Fill the cups to the top.
Chill in the fridge for a final 2 hours (or overnight).
Step 4: Garnish and Party!
Right before your guests arrive, squirt a little star of canned whipped cream on top of each shot and sprinkle with red, white, and blue star sprinkles!

Want to make these for the kids? Simply replace all the alcohol in the recipe with cold water or a clear juice (like white grape juice or lemonade). They will still look gorgeous and taste like a fruity summer treat!
