Itβs the weekend, youβve been invited to a last-minute summer BBQ or pool party, and you promised to bring an appetizer. You don’t have time to bake, and it is way too hot to turn on the stove anyway. Do not panic!

Enter the ultimate party-saver: Caprese Salad Skewers.
If you are looking for easy summer appetizers that look incredibly gourmet but require absolutely zero culinary skills, this is the recipe for you. These bite-sized skewers feature all the fresh, vibrant flavors of a classic Italian Caprese salad, but in a fun, portable, mess-free format. Drizzled with a sweet and tangy balsamic glaze, they are the perfect healthy summer recipe that always disappears first from the appetizer table!
π The Ingredients (Fresh is Everything!)
Since there is no cooking involved, the quality of your ingredients is the star of the show.
- 1 pintΒ Cherry or Grape TomatoesΒ (Look for the brightest, firmest ones you can find!).
- 1 tub (8 oz)Β Fresh Mozzarella Pearls (Bocconcini).Β (Make sure they are the “mini” pearls so they match the size of the tomatoes).
- 1 bunchΒ Fresh Basil Leaves.
- 2 tbspΒ Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
- Salt & Freshly Cracked Black Pepper.
- The Magic Touch:Β Balsamic GlazeΒ (See my hack below!).
- Equipment:Β Mini wooden skewers or decorative toothpicks.
π©βπ³ Step-by-Step Instructions (The 10-Minute Assembly)
Step 1: Prep the Ingredients
Wash and dry your cherry tomatoes and fresh basil leaves thoroughly. (If the ingredients are wet, the balsamic glaze will slide right off!). Drain the mozzarella pearls.
Step 2: The “Fold” Technique
To make the skewers look perfectly neat, you need to fold the basil! Take one fresh basil leaf and fold it in half, or into thirds if it’s a very large leaf.
Step 3: Thread the Skewers
Take a mini wooden skewer. Thread on one cherry tomato, followed by your folded basil leaf, and finish with a fresh mozzarella pearl.
Aesthetic Tip: Push the ingredients close together so they look plump and professional. Place the finished skewers neatly in a row on a beautiful wooden serving board or a white platter.
Step 4: Seasoning First!
Before you add the glaze, lightly drizzle the skewers with a high-quality extra virgin olive oil. Sprinkle generously with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper. (The salt brings out the natural sweetness of the tomatoes!).
Step 5: The Balsamic Glaze Hack π
Do not use regular liquid balsamic vinegar! It will just run off the tomatoes and make a watery mess on your plate. You need Balsamic Glaze (which is a thick, syrupy reduction).
The Hack: You can spend 20 minutes boiling down balsamic vinegar and sugar on the stove… OR you can just buy a $4 squeeze bottle of “Balsamic Glaze” from the grocery store! It tastes incredible, looks like a 5-star restaurant garnish, and saves you so much time.
Step 6: Drizzle and Serve
Right before your guests arrive (or right when you set the platter on the BBQ table), generously drizzle the thick balsamic glaze in a zigzag pattern over the skewers. Serve immediately!
π§ Make-Ahead Tips for Parties:
You can thread the tomatoes, basil, and cheese onto the skewers up to 24 hours in advance! Place them in an airtight container in the fridge with a dry paper towel to absorb any moisture. However, do NOT add the olive oil, salt, pepper, or balsamic glaze until the very last second before serving!
