π©βπ³ Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prep the Pan
You will need a standard 9×13 inch glass baking dish. You do not need to grease it!
Step 2: The Base Layer
Unwrap 12 of your ice cream sandwiches. Arrange them in a single, tight layer across the bottom of your baking dish. (You might need to cut one or two sandwiches in half with a knife to fill in any empty gaps at the edges!).
Step 3: The Gooey Middle (The “Warm Fudge” Hack! π)
Crucial Tip: Do not try to spread cold, thick hot fudge out of the jarβit will tear the ice cream sandwiches apart! Microwave your jar of hot fudge for about 20-30 seconds just until it is pourable, but NOT boiling hot (you don’t want to melt the ice cream!).
Pour half the jar of hot fudge and half the jar of caramel evenly over the first layer of sandwiches.
Step 4: The Second Layer
Unwrap the remaining 12 ice cream sandwiches and lay them directly on top of the fudge/caramel layer, pressing down very gently.
Step 5: Frosting the Cake
Spread the entire tub of thawed Cool Whip over the top layer of ice cream sandwiches. Use a spatula to make it smooth and fluffy, sealing the cake all the way to the edges of the glass dish.
Step 6: Decorate and FREEZE! π§
Drizzle the remaining hot fudge and caramel over the whipped cream. Sprinkle with crushed Oreos or festive 4th of July sprinkles!
The Golden Rule: You MUST cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the freezer for at least 2 to 4 hours before serving. It needs to harden completely so you can slice it!
πͺ How to Get the Perfect Clean Slice:
When it’s time for dessert, remove the cake from the freezer. Run a large, sharp Chef’s knife under screaming hot water, wipe the blade dry with a towel, and make your cut. Clean the blade with hot water between every single slice. This melts right through the chocolate cookie layers, giving you a beautiful, perfect square showing off all the ice cream layers!
