The 4th of July is this Saturday! If you are hosting a backyard BBQ or heading to a neighborhood cookout and completely forgot to plan a dessert, do not panic. Put down the store-bought cookies and step away from the hot oven!

I have the absolute best last-minute 4th of July dessert idea for you: Red, White, and Blue Chocolate Covered Strawberries.
These are the ultimate red white blue desserts. They require absolutely zero baking, take only 15 minutes to make, and look incredibly elegant on a platter. By using the natural red of the strawberry, a dip of creamy white chocolate, and a final dip in sparkling blue sugar, you get a patriotic masterpiece that kids and adults will fight over!
π The 3-Ingredient Shopping List
Keep it simple! You only need three things from the grocery store.
- 2 lbsΒ Large, Fresh StrawberriesΒ (Try to find strawberries with nice, long green stems to act as a handle while dipping!).
- 1 bag (12 oz)Β White Candy Melts or White Almond Bark.Β (See my “No-Seize” hack below!).
- 1/2 cupΒ Blue Sanding Sugar or Blue Sprinkles.
π©βπ³ Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: The “Bone-Dry” Berry Rule (Crucial!) π
The number one reason chocolate covered strawberries fail is moisture. You MUST wash your strawberries and then dry them completely with paper towels. Let them sit on the counter for 30 minutes to air-dry if you have time. If a single drop of water touches your melted white chocolate, it will seize and turn into a chalky, ruined mess!
Step 2: The Candy Melt Hack π‘
Chef’s Secret: Do not use standard white chocolate chips! White chocolate chips have stabilizers in them that make them very hard to melt smoothly. Use “Candy Melts” or “Almond Bark.” They are designed for dipping and melt into a silky, glossy pool.
Melt the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments, stirring well between each, until completely smooth.
Step 3: The Assembly Line
Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.
Pour your blue sanding sugar into a small, deep bowl next to your melted white chocolate.
Step 4: The Double Dip! π
Grab a completely dry strawberry by the green leafy stem.
- The White Layer:Β Dip the bottom 2/3 of the strawberry into the melted white chocolate. Tap the berry gently against the side of the bowl to let the excess chocolate drip off.
- The Blue Layer:Β Immediately, while the white chocolate is still wet, dip the very bottom 1/3 (the pointy tip) of the strawberry into the blue sanding sugar.
You now have a perfect Red (top), White (middle), and Blue (bottom) strawberry!
Step 5: Set and Chill
Place the decorated strawberry onto your parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat until all your berries are dipped! Place the entire baking sheet in the refrigerator for 10 to 15 minutes to let the chocolate harden and set perfectly.
π§ Outdoor Party Serving Tip:
If it is a hot 4th of July, do not leave these sitting in direct sunlight! Serve them on a chilled platter or keep them in the fridge until the very moment you are ready for dessert.
