- Β½ cup (1 stick) Unsalted Butter:Β (Melted).
- 1 cup Granulated White Sugar.
- 1 Β½ tbsp Ground Cinnamon:Β (A heavy dose of cinnamon is what makes this authentic!).
The Sweet Vanilla Glaze:
- 1 cup Powdered SugarΒ (Confectioner’s sugar).
- 2 to 3 tbsp Water or Milk.
- 1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract.
π³ Step-by-Step Masterclass Instructions
Step 1: The “Overnight Thaw” (Do This Thursday Night!) βοΈ
You cannot work with a frozen block of dough! The night before you want to bake, spray a loaf pan with non-stick spray, place the frozen dough log inside, cover it loosely with plastic wrap, and place it in the refrigerator overnight. By morning, it will be perfectly thawed, soft, and slightly puffed up!
Step 2: The “Deep Slit” Hack (Crucial for Flavor!) πͺ
Preheat your oven to 300Β°F (150Β°C). (Yes, 300Β°F! A low and slow bake ensures the center cooks through before the sugar crust burns!).
Remove your thawed dough from the pan and place it on a cutting board. Take a sharp knife and make 4 or 5 deep, diagonal slits across the top of the loaf. Cut deep, about halfway through the dough, but do not cut all the way to the bottom! This creates deep pockets for the butter to pool into.
Step 3: The Butter Bath π§
Melt your stick of butter in a long, shallow dish (a 9×13 baking pan works great). In a separate shallow dish, whisk together the white sugar and cinnamon.
Gently lift your scored dough log and dip the entire thing into the melted butter. Roll it around until it is completely saturated, making sure the butter gets deep into those slits you just cut!
Step 4: The Cinnamon Sugar Crust
Immediately transfer the butter-soaked dough into the dish of cinnamon sugar. Roll it aggressively, using your hands to pack the sugar heavily onto the dough and pushing the sugar deep down into the cuts.
Step 5: The “Butter Pool” Bake π₯
Generously grease your 9×5-inch loaf pan again. Place the coated dough log back into the pan. The Bakery Secret: Pour ANY leftover melted butter and cinnamon sugar from your dipping stations directly over the top of the loaf in the pan. Do not waste a drop!
Bake uncovered at 300Β°F for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top is deeply golden brown and caramelized.
Step 6: Cool and Glaze
While the bread bakes, whisk your powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla together to make the glaze.
Remove the bread from the oven and let it sit in the pan for exactly 10 minutes (so the melted butter is re-absorbed by the hot bread!). Carefully lift it out using a spatula. Serve warm, pulling the thick slices apart with your fingers and dipping them into the vanilla glaze!
